Kate McKenzie works with emerging leaders who have great ideas and empowers them to share their stores more effectively. Kate is the Studio Manager & Researcher in Residence at Ryerson’s Transmedia Zone, where she helps creative media-makers design and deliver communications to build momentum around their ideas. She coaches teams to set short and long term goals that lead to successful business models.
As a recent graduate of the Masters in Digital Media program, Kate designed a co-creation and constructive journalism learning platform called “Make Stories That Matter”. She is testing her platform as part of the Transmedia Zone’s Virtual Studio for emerging media makers to co-create short videos with their subjects. These videos address societal problems as well as inspiring solutions. Through testing her learning platform, Kate hopes to establish a new standard for ethical and inclusive media making.
No stranger to learning outcomes, Kate was an educator in the public school system for seven years before launching her media company, Worldviews Productions. Her first project with the Transmedia Zone was the CBC and White Pines digital series – We Are Canada. Kate co-directed the documentary The Secret Marathon, which included filming and participating in her first ever marathon in Afghanistan. She authored and illustrated a self-published book entitled Passport Project. She is also a certified professional speaker and speaker coach with the TEDx organization in Calgary.
